Grupo Siro eliminates waste in all its plants

Grupo Siro achieves more than 3 million euros in savings between the revaluation of the by-product and the recycling or reuse of its waste.
Grupo Siro managed to reduce its carbon footprint by half per kilo thanks to its commitment to renewables.

Siro achieves its goal of zero discharge in all the Group’s factories, which means that all the waste generated by its production activity is revalued and recycled, which means more than 3 million euros for the Company. Currently, Grupo Siro has 12 factories located in the regions of Castilla y León, Comunidad Valenciana and Andalucía.

This fact has been possible thanks to the collaboration with Tuero, a member of Grupo Siro on environmental issues, through which it has been able to revalue its food by-products, recycle packaging, oils and packaging, composting of sewage sludge, etc.

At the same time, Grupo Siro has managed to halve its carbon footprint per kilo produced since 2015, thanks to its commitment to renewable energies through its service provider EDP and other energy saving measures such as the implementation of LEDs, motion sensors, engine optimization, among others.

In the words of Juan Manuel González Serna, President of Grupo Siro, and main sponsor of the Group’s sustainability objectives, he points out that: “Siro has become one of the first companies in Spain to achieve zero discharge in all its plants. We have once again won the social commitment that can be profitable and that is why we will continue to deepen our knowledge and commitment to the circular economy. ”

Thus, Grupo Siro will continue advancing in all the topics of Circular Economy in the short term with the recent commitment to a biogas project, and deepening in the reduction of its water footprint for what has installed a measurement system of the last year.

The Sustainability Plan of Grupo Siro, contemplated that all its plants were a zero landfill by 2020 and the reduction of 15% – 20% of its carbon footprint in 2030, but that it had both objectives ahead of schedule, demonstrating its commitment with the environments in which it operates. It should be added that all Grupo Siro plants have the ISO 14001 environmental certification.
